A single-zone ductless mini split consists of one outdoor unit connected to one indoor air handler. It serves one room or open area, such as a bedroom, home office, studio, garage conversion, or room addition. Single-zone systems are the most common ductless installation across the service area, and cost $2,500 to $4,500 installed depending on BTU capacity and efficiency.

A multi-zone ductless mini split connects multiple indoor air handlers to a single outdoor unit. Each indoor unit is independently controlled, with its own remote, setpoint, and operating schedule. Multi-zone systems suit two to five rooms that need individual temperature control, a home without ductwork that needs whole-home coverage, or a homeowner who wants room-level control without upgrading to a zoned central system. Cost runs $5,500 to $13,000 for two to five zones.
